Flu Shot Clinics
Ballina Family Medical Centre will be offering al fresco flu clinics. We are wanting to avoid bringing healthy people in contact with any diseases. These will be held in the car park of the practice and will be starting sometime around the 20th of April.
- The over 65’s vaccine this year is Fluad Quad (quadrivalent this year rather than trivalent last year). This is not available for private purchase. There are no Trivalent vaccines available in Australia this year.
- FLUAD QUAD has been specifically designed using an adjuvant to create a greater immune response amongst the over 65 population, who are known to have a weaker response to immunisations.
- The optimum time for vaccination- ATAGI advises that optimal protection occurs within the 3-4 months following vaccination. Therefore vaccination from mid-april-may onwards is likely to result in peak immunity during the flu season (circulating typically June to September in NSW).
- It is never too late to vaccinate as influenza circulates all year round.
